Airsoft and Paintball
Hey guys!
After some thinking and attending an event, I've decided to move a bit more into the airsoft arena. This by no means means I'm giving up paintball or the team. I'll still play and be extremely active, but I really like airsofts direction.
I have to tell you that the attitude is much more military oriented, guys take their realistic guns very seriously, and the tactics seem a bit more realistic. Its a very tight knit community.
Honor seems to be a huge factor here. You might be asking how it could be considering there are no markings left on a player, but it is precisely FOR THIS REASON that they enforce it much more strictly, plus the reaction of getting hit with one of these BB's really seems to make it to where you can't hide the fact that you have been hit.
The start up money is a bit more, because realism in gear and guns is paramount, but after that, 15 bucks for 3000 BB's as opposed to 40 - 80 dollars for paintballs really makes a huge budget difference.
Anyway, I'm opening it up to discussion...who plays airsoft, who wants to give it a try? I know I'm going to once I sell my Ego stuff.
Discuss away!

I'm in, and I've got extra guns for people to try and/or buy. Though I dont have extra goggles so i reccomend everyone bring their own eye protection.

I've got a Tokyo Marui M4 and MP5, small and lightweight but don't shoot that far. Nate has a full size M21 that he can pick people off pretty good with.
If we are going to get into this as a team, I'd like to sell those two and get a new one.

Yeah man, I'd love that. If we can't play paintball go hit up some airsoft games. Definately a lot cheaper. I just sold my Ego and tanks and stuff and got a really nice full metal G&G M4 with rail system, an aCog scope, suppressor and all that stuff.
I'm just waiting anxiously for the stuff to arrive.

Re: Airsoft and Paintball
I own a KJW Glock 23 (the full metal version), but I have never played an airsoft game before. Heck, I don't think I have shot more than 100 rounds through it. What sort of range do you really get in a game? It seems like a .2gram BB would get lost in the wind after 10-20 yards. And is there a cap on the velocity? Or is it one of those, the player with the most money invested in the best gun with the highest velocity wins the battle things?
I bought it because it is an almost exact replica of my two G23 pistols. And I wanted a way to practice my trigger pulls without wasting $0.17 per shot at the range.

Re: Airsoft and Paintball
When it comes to airsoft guns, my experience has been that each gun has a "hop up" which is essentially like a flatline effect for paintballs.
I've been told that wind doesn't really effect the BB's as much as you would think, plus if if is windy, you can use different weighted BB's to deal with the issue. Apparently the hop up gives the BB such a flat trajectory that you can actually use optics to a certain degree of accuracy.
BB's have about the same range as paintballs supposedly. Most good guns don't really get over 350, but for the sniper rifle varieties you do get higher FPS in order to account for a long range shot.
There are airsoft guns out there that the military uses that are 1500 dollars, BUT for a normal top of the line gun, you're looking at 400 dollars or lower, plus all the stuff you add to it.
The start up cost seems like a lot, and I guess it is because airsofters pride themselves on authentic looking stuff, but once thats all said and done you are with a group of guys who have to pride their honor above everything else, and a reduced count in ammunition that is a fraction the cost of paintballs.
